Who doesn’t love receiving cards? They are a beautiful gesture and can make a person’s day…but they can be expensive! If I do end up buying cards it’s typically the blank on the inside pack of 10 at TJ Maxx for $4.00. But I’m here today people, to encourage and support you to get out your elmer’s glue, glitter and sharpie pens and start hand making your cards! This may not be fun for everyone and you might love wandering the aisles in Target for that perfect card – but I think nowadays we don’t do much with our hands but type, scroll, pin and click away and making a card can be a much needed escape from technology. Now go cut out scraps from those magazines you have piling up and draw, doodle and glitter away to customize your card for your person. Even if it looks janky, I promise they will love the time and thought you put into it!
Step 1: Gather the essentials: scissors, glue, glitter, magazines, card stock paper…etc. For your actual card, it can be as simple as a piece of white printer paper or some fancy/colored/thick scrapbook paper you’ve had since middle school. Maybe use a brown paper bag or a gift bag that has a fun print on it that you’ve been saving to re-use.
Step 2: Weed through magazines and cut out letters to spell out their name or a word that describes them. Look for images or words that remind you of them when flipping through magazines.
Step 3: Start gluing away! Add polka dots or write out their name in glue and sprinkle glitter on top – cut out a picture of their head and put it on Oprah’s body…etc…etc…oh and don’t forget the back of the card. That’s prime real estate to get creative!
