Do you have a dream movie apartment?

There are some movies I watch because it’s a great story and sometimes just because I like the setting. Maybe it’s filmed in a romantic city or town – or it’s that perfect house on a perfect tree lined street and it just sucks me right in and I start imagining myself living there. Do you do this?

Have you seen The Break Up? If you haven’t, it’s an anti-romantic comedy from 2006 and it was on TV the other day and I forgot how much I love this apartment! The couple (Jennifer Aniston & Vince Vaughn) share a condo in Chicago and one of their biggest fights is over who gets the apartment. And rightfully so because the apartment is worth fighting for. It’s vintage, cool, artsy, chic, clean, cozy, has amazing crown molding and I love it!

Bedroom.
Accent wallpaper wall. Cozy lamp. Not too matchy-matchy with different bedside tables to give that eclectic look.
Also, Jennifer Aniston’s wardrobe in this movie is a dream movie wardrobe, but that’s a whole different discussion!

Living Room. Hey there pretty built in bookcases! Adds soul & smartness to a room.
Living Room. Rattan blinds and neutral color palette. I spy 2 cozy lamps 🙂
Kitchen. Love the wood butcher block island.
Dining Room. Open flowing space. Lovely french doors that lead to the kitchen and the raw wood table.
Living Room/Hallway. Cool patterned – corky chairs.

Should you add one of these fiddle~leaf trees to your home?

It seems like most people (including myself) now have a ficus lyrata in their home. Commonly known as the fiddle-leaf fig, native to western Africa and can grow up to 12–15 m tall! It brings the outside inside in a very minimal way and isn’t too overbearing of a plant. I think it can help liven up any room and make it feel happier!

Below is a round up of some of the best looking ones on the market right now!

Mom’s French Country Bedroom Reveal!

Ok, so my mom has been searching for “what her style” is for some time now and I think we finally figured it out – French Country. This woman has touched every corner of her house with a paintbrush. I really think she could have her own book with all of the styles and themes she has designed over the course of her life. She decorated her bedroom like this about 16 years ago, and don’t get me wrong, it’s cool and definitely unique, but, it was time to update that sucker. It took us about 2 weeks from start to finish and it looks fabulous!

Total cost: $120.00 for 3 cans of paint. To keep our budget low we are working with what she has. Thankfully, she has some really unique and beautiful pieces that she’s acquired from estate & garage sales over time. This has made it easy to go shopping throughout the house or shed or trailer when we need something.

The Before

How cool is this painting of my dad when he was in high school! (although it didn’t make the final cut)

The Inspiration

What we did:

~ Painted the walls and ceiling with 2 coats. Took painting shifts – I worked for 45 minutes while mom watched the baby, and then we switched. This worked really well for us & made time fly by!

~ Moved furniture around and changed the set up.

~ Swapped the curtains, changed the rug, got rid of the majority of the wall accents and kept it minimal.

The After

We thought about trying to cover the chandelier cord with a mirror or a cord cover, but in the end we liked the raw look and kept it as is.

Get the French Country look:

  1. Chandelier
  2. Chair
  3. Hydrangeas
  4. Stacked suitcases
  5. 4 Poster Bed
  6. Muted color palette
  7. Aged piece of furniture

Mom now loves to retreat to her bedroom ~ Let us know your thoughts or questions below!

  2. Canopies! If you don’t have any shade around your pool or patio, this is a great option.
  3. Dinner Ideas!
    1. Breakfast (pancakes + butter, eggs, bacon, cinnamon rolls…etc…etc…)
    2. Popcorn + cheese (muenster is my fave) + grapes & apples + wine
    3. Pasta + butter + lemon juice + parmesan cheese

A chart that might be helpful for choosing the right wattage

A French Inspired Bathroom Makeover

This project was long overdue so it feels like a huge accomplishment that we are finished! When we first started re-doing mom’s bathroom, all we knew was it was going to be white because we had white paint given to us for free 🙂 From there it all fell into place with the look we were going for. The bathroom was dark and outdated and now it is airy, light and romantic.

Total cost: $0.00! My mom has A LOT of stuff in her house so we were able to pull all the accessories from other rooms and stuff she had in storage.

The Before

The After

It is now an inviting space and feels like a luxurious french hotel bathroom – now all you need is a glass of wine and a bubble bath to complete the look!
